Waking Up With an Alarm Clock

So, what would it take to get up the first time the alarm clock goes off?  Is getting up right away the best thing to do when the alarm clock goes off?  Is it better to hit the snooze once before waking up to the alarm clock and actually getting out of bed?  These are all questions I have asked myself. 

I can see how some believe it is good to get up right when the alarm clock goes off? Going back to bed when the alarm clock goes off the first time leaves risk for accidentally turning the alarm clock off.  I can also see why others feel it is better to hit the snooze on the alarm clock once as well, giving the person the chance to “gradually” wake up.  Some people (including myself), not always but at times, hit the snooze on their alarm clock 4 or 5 times in the morning before actually opening their eyes and getting some clothes on.  This leaves huge risk for accidentally turning the alarm clock off or just being late for work. 

Others however, will hear the alarm clock, stand up, turn off the alarm clock and go about their normal morning routine.

With time (getting older) and knowledge, I am finding some mornings are easier to wake up to an alarm clock than other mornings. Why is that? Did I go to bed earlier the night before?  Did I eat something different before I went to bed?  Did I drink more water last night? so when I do hear the alarm clock, I have to go to the bathroom so bad I have to get up.

There is one thing I am realizing about waking up to an alarm clock in the morning.  When I hit the snooze on my alarm clock in the morning and go back to sleep,  I usually am not interested in what the next day has in store.  When I don’t want to wake up when that alarm clock goes off, it is usually because I have to go to work that morning.  When the alarm clock goes off on a weekend morning and I have plans to go do something with my daughter,  I have no problem waking up to the alarm clock.  I don’t even have a problem waking up to an alarm clock on a work day when its payday or Friday!! 

In conclusion,  the reality is, we all need an alarm clock. Somedays are easier than others waking up to an alarm clock.  The best thing to do to ensure waking up to an alarm clock is “easy”, a person needs something to look forward to everyday giving them a reason to wake up when that annoying alarm clock goes off.

Yonder Is the Clock $11.18 The Felice Brothers had a banner year in 2008, ditching their gig as New York City street performers in favor of a record contract, increased distribution, and international tour dates. Released just 13 months after the self-titled Felice Brothers — an album that served as the band’s de facto introduction to the world at large — Yonder Is the Clock offers another confident, rustic batch of northeastern Americana. Painted with earth tones and dotted with the same American archetypes that previously peppered Music from Big Pink, these songs draw easy parallels to the influences that spawned them, from Bob Dylan’s drawl to the Band’s rickety harmonies. Yonder Is the Clock certainly makes no attempt to disguise its roots, and while it often lacks the technical skill of Robbie Robertson or the poetic prowess of Dylan, the musicians do shoulder the weight of their predecessors. The Felice Brothers have always prized storytelling above instrumental chops, and Yonder Is the Clock (whose title borrows from Mark Twain’s The Mysterious Stranger) spins its sepia-toned narratives with conviction and authenticity, like a traveling band playing folk ballads by campfire. This is an album that references Depression-era plagues and cold New England winters with a hardened grin, an album in which turn-of-the-century ballplayers like Ty Cobb populate the nostalgic ballads. As with the previous record, Clock flirts with ramshackle country (particularly during the two fowl-related numbers, “Chicken Wire” and “Run Chicken Run”) but devotes more of its time to slow, melancholic twang, while producer Jeremy Backofen eschews excessive knob-twiddling for a casual, live-in-the-studio ambience. The best introduction to the Felice Brothers still rests in the band’s live show, where even the most leisurely songs brim with rich hootenanny appeal. After Vinnie Paz welcomed him into the ranks of his Army of the Pharaohs supergroup (in its first incarnation), Kamachi came into his own, adopting a lyrical style — much like that introduced by Wu-Tang affiliates Killah Priest and Sunz of Man — that dealt in mystical imagery, a sort of ghetto pseudo-Gnosticism, which he’s used ever since. His third solo LP, The Clock of Destiny, is drenched in such imagery. In his world, Chief Kamachi lives in the city of Philadelphus, where he studies the rituals of something called “Kamalah” (which is also his alias at times) and fancies himself “the section-eight Egyptian.” Fascinated by astrology, “white Wicca,” “West African magic,” and the more morbid aspects of Christian scriptures, Kamachi blends it all together with more conventional battle MC boasting. Unlike Killah Priest though, Kamachi is able to hold himself back from total lyrical unintelligibility even if he does spit his fair share of eyebrow-raisers; he has no qualms, for instance, in calling himself “half Jesus, half Richard Pryor.” Still, Kamachi’s approach works well when his mysticism is presented in the context of contemporary ghetto life. Not unlike Jim Jarmusch’s Ghost Dog, Kamachi portrays himself as one who exists in today’s world but lives according to anachronistic, and often contradictory, beliefs — a “mystical jewel-wearer” who “meditates in back of a pool hall.” Similarly, the most compelling moments on the Clock of Destiny come when the Philly MC turns his eye to the struggles of his fellow inner-city residents — detailing the world’s harsh realities to a newborn on “Steel Umbrella,” for example. Antony Harding (aka July Skies) is part of that pop and rock tradition, but his exploration of memories is more conceptual. July Skies’ entire raison d’être is nostalgia, referencing not just the past but a specific bygone place and time: the cultural and emotional geography of post-war Britain, whose disappearing traces are woven into The Weather Clock’s aural tapestry like an absent presence. Nevertheless, Harding’s approach here is more evocative than literal, the majority of his songs purely instrumental. Nodding to Flying Saucer Attack, Eyeless in Gaza, Eno, Durutti Column, and Slowdive, these are slow motion, atmospheric pieces. Fashioned from fragile, echoing guitars — supplemented with clarinet, bass, piano, and organ — they offer fading, blurry sound-postcards from a largely imagined past. Even on the tracks with vocals, “Girl on the Hill” and “One Morning in May,” the meaning of the words is secondary to the hazy, ineffable tone of Harding’s voice, which adds to the material’s gently haunted, yearning quality.
